A civil war launched by ethnic armies and citizens against the Junta started in 2021 right after the military seized power from Aung Sun Su Kyi. It intensified since late last year when the ethnic armies joined forces to fight. The war and compulsory conscription has led to more people fleeing the country into Thailand.
Since October 2023, Living Waters Ministry has partnered with BHDF, an NGO that brings war victims & patients out from the border of Myanmar for treatment in Thailand, due to the civil war & inadequate medical services. Living Waters provides a transit space & food for the patients. Some require assistance such as medication & medical aid. As such Living Waters is raising fund to cover these new needs.
Organizational Structure of Living Waters Ministry
Due to administrative reasons, Living Waters Foundation oversees operations in Chiang Mai, including the patient shelter and urban programs, while border outreaches & initiatives such as Border Humanitarian Funds, Child Sponsorship, Refugee Scholarship and Training / Beyond Success are funded and accounted independently under the broader umbrella of Living Waters Ministry.
The Outreach Initiative currently supports two homes for children who have fled the civil war in Karen State:
Children for Christ Dormitory in Mae La Camp: 43 children (increasing to 48 by June 2025)
Home-for-You Dormitory in Mae La Oo Camp: 43 children (adjusted to 33 by June 2025)
Support is provided through a collective sponsorship model at RM 500 per child per year, covering basic necessities such as rice and meals for each home.
In addition to these, smaller projects to support other homes and dormitories will be considered, such as Bwe K'ler Migrant School Dormitory which CSP will provide THB 5,000 worth of rice from Aug to Jan 2026, subject to review.
Launched in September 2024, the scholarship project aims to support college and high school students in Karen State and within the refugee community who struggles to pay the annual school fees, through a debt-relief fund with the college or dorm parent.
